Product DetailsVirbacDental PreparationActive Ingredient(s): C.E.T. FluraFom contains 1.23% fluoride (from sodium fluoride and hydrogen fluoride) in a phosphoric acid foam at pH 3.0- 3.4. Indications: Fluoride treatment can be an important adjunct to routine dental prophylaxis. Although dogs and cats are relatively resistant to developing caries, the beneficial uses of fluoride therapy are well documented. These benefits include desensitizing exposed dentin, strengthening tooth enamel, decreasing the rate of plaque re-attachment, and stimulating remineralization of the enamel. C.E.T. FluraFom is a fluoride treatment specifically developed for use on animals. C.E.T. FluraFom's delivery system is more efficient than regular fluoride gels. The dynamic foam provides a continuous supply of fluoride to the tooth surface requiring less fluoride to produce a comparable fluoride uptake. The reduction of the total amount of fluoride introduced into the oral cavity decreases the danger of ingesting potentially toxic levels of fluoride. Use following each dental prophylaxis, or apply at the time of spay/newuer (around 6 months of age) to strengthen the enamel of the permanent dentition. Avoid food and water for 30 minutes after treatment. Dosage and Administration: C.E.T. FluraFom should be used on an intubated and anesthetized patient. After a thorough cleaning, polishing and irrigating, dry the teeth completely using an air syringe.Shake the applicator vigorously. Gently push down on the nozzle, and apply a ribbon of C.E.T. FluraFom directly on the upper and lower row of teeth, one (1) side at a time. If necessary, use a soft-bristled toothbrush to evenly distribute the foam over all of the tooth surfaces. Allow one (1) to two (2) minutes for the foam to dissipate and then remove any remaining foam. The fluoride is continuously deposited on the tooth enamel as the foam dissipates. Avoid food and water for 30 minutes after treatment. A fluoride treatment is recommended every four (4) to six (6) months. Note: Because the nozzle has a tendency to release too much foam, first-time users of C.E.T. FluraFom may wish to test the application on a smooth surface prior to applying it on the teeth. Caution(s): U.S. federal law prohibits dispensing without a prescription. For veterinary use only. Discussion: Fluoride uptake efficiency of C.E.T. FluraFom: Fluoride gels are available with neutral or acidic pH. The 1.23% acidulated phosphate fluoride gels with a 3-3.5 pH have been shown to have a better capacity to bond with the calcium in the tooth enamel. The fluoride uptake by teeth exposed to C.E.T. FluraFom and a commercial gel product (both 1.23% acidulated phosphate fluoride) have been measured under experimental laboratory conditions. Results from one study are summarized, and demonstrate the fluoride uptake achieved by C.E.T. FluraFom is consistently higher than that provided by the traditional gel-type product. In addition, since substantially less fluoride is required to produce comparable fluoride uptake, the use of the foam minimizes exposure to systemic fluoride. The foam delivery is also easier to use and requires less cleanup.
